APS6 Senior Investigator – NSW & VIC

About the role

The APS6 Senior Investigator position supports the Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) in both Sydney and Melbourne, delivering complex investigations for a 12‑month fixed‑term contract with possible extension.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and plan investigative cases, conduct interviews and prepare statements, affidavits and briefs of evidence.
• Collect, secure and manage evidential material and confidential information for referral to agencies such as the Australian Federal Police and the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions.
• Provide evidence in criminal or civil court as a DVA representative.
• Analyse information and produce detailed reports; undertake related administration, reporting and project work.
• Engage with DVA staff, partner agencies, veterans/clients, providers and third parties through formal and informal discussions.
• Support out‑of‑office investigative and operational activities, including domestic air travel and overnight stays.

Required profile

• Australian citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting One security clearance and national police check.
• More than five years of experience handling high volumes of complex investigative work to a high standard.
• Demonstrated sound judgement, professionalism and discretion when dealing with sensitive information.

Required skills

• Certificate IV in Government Investigations (or equivalent) to conduct complex and sensitive investigations.
• Advanced proficiency with the Microsoft Suite of products.
