Walking Buddy Volunteer (Burmese Speaking)

About the role

HammondCare, an independent Christian charity providing the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme funded by the Australian Government, is seeking volunteers to walk and talk with residents at its North Turramurra facility. The aim is to help maintain residents' mobility, wellbeing and confidence while they enjoy the wider grounds. No fitness level is required, as this is a social outing with light-paced exercise.

Key responsibilities

• Visit residents on a regular basis to walk and talk with them
• Help maintain residents' mobility and support their healthy wellbeing and confidence
• Share time with residents, who value the company and the chance to see the surroundings

Required profile

• Kindness, presence and willingness to spend time with someone who would appreciate it
• Background or language does not matter; speaking Burmese is a bonus but not essential
• 18 years or older
• An NDIS Worker Screening Check arranged and paid for by HammondCare

Visits are scheduled during the week between 9:30am and 11:30am and 1pm and 4pm, for up to an hour on Monday to Friday. Walking time varies per visit and is guided by the Volunteer Coordinator. Interested people are contacted by phone or text, then by email if needed.
