Walking Companion Volunteer, North Turramurra

About the role

HammondCare is looking for a caring and reliable volunteer to accompany one of its residents on walks in her wheelchair around the local area in North Turramurra. The resident enjoys being outside after a stroke, though her communication has become more limited; a friendly smile, shared observations and simply being present can help build a meaningful relationship. No experience is necessary.

Key responsibilities

• Take a resident for regular wheelchair walks in the local community
• Provide companionship and social connection
• Help bring enjoyment, stimulation and a sense of freedom to her day

Required profile

• A friendly and compassionate person
• Comfortable engaging with older people
• Reliability and a positive attitude
• Available Monday or Wednesday between 10:30 and 11:30 am (weekly or fortnightly visits welcome)
• Aged 18 years and over
• An NDIS Worker Screening Check is required if you do not already hold a valid clearance; the cost is covered during onboarding
