About the role
We are looking for an experienced Tax & Compliance Specialist to join the Business Services Centre Compliance Assurance team on a 2‑year fixed‑term contract. The role will focus on the high‑profile Wage Type Review project, providing expert guidance on Australian and New Zealand employment tax obligations.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct detailed reviews of wage types, allowances, deductions and employee payments to assess compliance with Australian fringe benefits tax, payroll tax, PAYG withholding, superannuation guarantee and New Zealand ESCT requirements.
- Analyse payroll configurations, business practices and processing outcomes to determine technical supportability and operational effectiveness.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to project teams, payroll, HR systems, industrial relations, finance, tax and remediation stakeholders.
- Assess compliance risks arising from wage‑type design and usage, and develop practical recommendations to improve governance.
- Review and validate technical assessments, working papers and project findings for accuracy and legislative compliance.
- Support remediation activities by preparing evidence‑based technical positions that can withstand internal, external and regulatory scrutiny.
- Translate complex tax and superannuation requirements into clear business guidance.
- Contribute to future‑state wage‑type design, payroll configuration and governance frameworks.
- Prepare and maintain audit‑ready documentation, decision records and evidence repositories.
- Partner with People Services, Group Tax, Industrial Relations, Finance, Risk Assurance and operational functions to deliver sustainable compliance outcomes.
Required profile
- Proven experience as an employment tax professional with deep knowledge of Australian payroll tax legislation and New Zealand ESCT.
- Strong analytical and commercial mindset, able to navigate complex payroll environments.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across multiple functions and influence senior stakeholders.
- Excellent written communication skills for preparing technical documentation and business guidance.
- Ability to manage high‑visibility projects and deliver results within tight timelines.
