Senior Protection Engineer – 12‑Month Contract

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Protection Engineer to join our Engineering and Protection team on a 12‑month contract in Perth. You will be responsible for designing, testing and commissioning protection schemes for high‑voltage transmission, renewable generation and battery storage projects.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, review and approve protection system designs for 220kV/33kV substations and generation assets.
• Perform protection engineering studies, calculations and coordination assessments to set protection parameters.
• Prepare protection philosophies, functional design specifications, technical reports and engineering drawings.
• Configure, validate and document protection relay settings in line with standards and project requirements.
• Lead Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), bench testing and verification of protection schemes and communication systems.
• Verify relay interoperability, including IEC 61850 MMS and GOOSE messaging.
• Provide technical support during commissioning, troubleshooting complex protection and control issues.
• Collaborate with project, design, operations and commissioning teams to integrate protection requirements.

Required profile

• Proven experience in high‑voltage protection engineering for substations and renewable energy facilities.
• Strong understanding of protection device selection, grading and coordination.
• Ability to produce clear technical documentation and reports.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.
