Senior Medical Officer (Rural Generalist / Provisional Fellow)

About the role

The Senior Medical Officer will deliver high‑quality rural generalist services, support a midwifery‑led maternity model, and provide clinical oversight across Biloela Hospital and the wider Central Queensland Health network.

Key responsibilities

• Provide primary and secondary medical care in inpatient, outpatient and emergency settings.
• Offer clinical governance and specialist support to the Banana Midwifery Group Practice for a safe level‑2 maternity service.
• Mentor and supervise doctors‑in‑training, medical students, midwives and nursing staff.
• Lead maternity quality and safety initiatives, including audits, case reviews and risk management.
• Participate in out‑of‑hours and weekend emergency rosters.
• Collaborate with multiple CQ Health sites using outreach and digital health platforms.

Required profile

• MBBS (or equivalent) with current registration on the Medical Board of Australia.
• Fellowship of ACRRM or RACGP, or active trainee working toward fellowship, with advanced obstetrics skills (e.g., DRANZCOG Advanced).
• Current ALS and PALS certifications.
• Proven competence in rural hospital practice, trauma management and emergency medicine.
• Ability to work autonomously, manage a diverse workload and provide collaborative leadership.
