Senior Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join its Buildings Services team in Melbourne. You will lead mechanical design for large‑scale infrastructure projects, delivering high‑performance HVAC and ventilation solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design packages from concept through detailed design and construction support for systems such as Air Handling Units, Fan Coil Units, CRAC units, chillers and refrigeration equipment.
• Provide technical advice on system engineering, design assurance, operation and maintenance, ensuring compliance with NCC and Australian Standards.
• Identify continuous improvement opportunities in system architecture and specifications.
• Manage project deliverables against programme, budget and quality targets.
• Act as the primary mechanical engineering interface with clients and project stakeholders.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Chartered Engineer status (CPEng) or a clear pathway toward chartership.
• Significant experience in mechanical building services design within a consulting environment.
• Proven track record delivering complex projects in sectors such as aviation, health, education, commercial, life sciences or major infrastructure.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of NCC, Australian Standards, energy efficiency, smoke control and ventilation design principles.
• Experience with Revit/BIM‑enabled design delivery.
• Proficiency in mechanical engineering analysis tools.
• Hands‑on expertise with HVAC equipment including AHUs, FCUs, CRAC units, chillers and refrigeration systems.
