Senior Full-Stack AI Engineer

About the role

Dexterous is a values-driven organisation that runs internal Finance, HR and AI teams for its clients, combining off-the-shelf solutions, RPA and a global workforce to deliver scalable teams. This role sits in the newly created Dexterous AI unit, which builds intelligent, end-to-end financial tools for small-to-medium businesses. As a Senior Full-Stack AI Engineer you will work across the full stack to design and build scalable AI-powered applications, helping develop the MVP and define how finance operations look in an automated world.

Key responsibilities

• Build responsive, secure, high-performance web apps with React/Next.js and TypeScript, including dashboards, bookkeeping tools and AI-assisted workflows, working with designers on accessible components and optimising page load times.
• Design RESTful and GraphQL APIs with FastAPI (Python), maintain PostgreSQL and MongoDB schemas, integrate with Xero, MYOB and banking APIs, and implement secure authentication, authorisation and role-based access control.
• Use AI/LLM frameworks (GPT-4.1+, LangChain, CrewAI) for document OCR, categorisation and financial insights; build data pipelines for document ingestion and tune prompts and model performance.
• Own features from planning to deployment, collaborate with Product, Design and QA on sprint goals, and help maintain 99.9% uptime through monitoring, logs, metrics and incident response.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience as a Full-Stack or Machine Learning Engineer in fast-paced environments.
• Expert React, TypeScript and Next.js, including SSR and SSG.
• Strong Python/FastAPI backend experience, database modelling and secure authentication (JWT, OAuth2).
• Hands-on experience with prompt engineering and deploying LLMs such as GPT-4, LLaMA or open-source equivalents.
• Familiarity with ML serving frameworks (TorchServe, BentoML) and container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Deep knowledge of the AI/ML lifecycle, from data preprocessing to model monitoring and retraining.
• Agile/Scrum, user stories, acceptance criteria and code reviews.
• Ability to turn accounting, bookkeeping and reporting requirements into scalable features; experience with financial APIs is a plus.
• Excellent English communication skills.
