Senior Associate Engineer - Waste & Resource Recovery

About the role

SMEC is looking for a Senior Associate Environmental or Civil Engineer to strengthen its Waste & Resource Recovery team, based in Melbourne or Geelong. The role suits a landfill design specialist or construction-focused engineer who enjoys technical delivery and wants to lead projects, build client relationships and expand service offerings across Victoria and Tasmania. With 15+ years' experience, you will help deliver waste, resource recovery and recycling infrastructure design, construction management projects and business development.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and deliver landfill and waste infrastructure design projects (containment cells, capping, lining systems, leachate and gas infrastructure)
• Oversee GITA/construction phase services, including contract administration, superintendent roles, quality assurance and site supervision
• Manage waste infrastructure and other waste-related projects
• Provide engineering input into designs such as landfills, materials recycling facilities and resource recovery centres
• Build and maintain relationships with clients and key stakeholders
• Drive business development activities
• Mentor and support junior team members

Required profile

• Environmental or Civil Engineering qualification, or similar
• 15+ years' experience, ideally within the landfill and waste industry
• Proven project management and client relationship management capability
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
