Project Cost Controller – Construction

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Project Cost Controller to manage the financial performance of construction projects throughout their lifecycle. Working closely with the Project Manager and delivery team, you will provide accurate cost reporting, budgeting, forecasting and commercial analysis to support confident decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and maintain the project cost control framework, including budgets, cost codes, commitments and expenditure.
• Track actual expenditure against approved budgets across engineering, procurement, construction, subcontractors, labour, plant and materials.
• Review contractor invoices, raise purchase order requisitions and advise on change orders.
• Prepare and maintain cost forecasts (EAC, ETC) and produce monthly cost reports for management.
• Monitor project cash‑flow forecasts, payment milestones and financial commitments.
• Support audits, final cost reconciliation and lessons‑learned activities.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Construction Management, Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Commerce or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience in project cost control or commercial cost management within construction, infrastructure, engineering or EPC environments.
• Strong understanding of project budgets, cost forecasting, committed costs, accruals and financial reporting.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel, including financial modelling and data analysis.
• Experience with MYOB or Acumatica accounting systems.
