Principal Mechanical Engineer – Major Queensland Rail Project

About the role

UGL is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical design on a major greenfield rail project in South East Queensland. Based in Brisbane’s CBD, you will support the delivery of new dual‑track rail, tunnels, stations and stabling infrastructure, shaping the region’s long‑term transport network.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design from concept through to delivery across the rail project.
• Develop and review design documentation, calculations and specifications.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated design outcomes.
• Ensure compliance with mechanical standards, safety requirements and project specifications.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to engineering staff.

Required profile

• Experience in a Principal or Senior Mechanical Engineering role.
• Strong background in mechanical design within rail or large‑scale infrastructure environments.
• Proven experience across design and delivery phases on major projects.
• Deep knowledge of mechanical standards, systems and compliance frameworks.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
