Principal Mechanical Engineer – Building Services

About the role

AECOM is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical design and delivery for high‑profile building services projects across defence and data‑centre sectors. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to create innovative, cost‑effective solutions that meet client expectations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design from concept through completion for major client projects.
• Conduct technical reviews, design assurance and quality control of calculations, drawings and documentation.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to interdisciplinary reviews.
• Build strong client and stakeholder relationships to drive successful delivery.
• Mentor junior engineers and support team development.

Required profile

• 10+ years experience in building services consultancy or senior mechanical design.
• Proven experience delivering projects in defence and/or data‑centre sectors.
• Australian citizenship; defence security clearance is highly regarded.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering.
• Strong knowledge of Australian building services codes and standards.

Required skills

• HVAC system design.
• Mechanical engineering design calculations and documentation.
• Use of design software for drawings and modelling.
• Understanding of Australian building services codes.
