Planning Investigations Officer

About the role

A Melbourne metro council is looking for an experienced Planning Investigations Officer to join its statutory planning team. Reporting to the Statutory Planning Coordinator, the role combines site inspections, planning investigations and stakeholder engagement, helping ensure compliance with planning regulations and resolving complex matters for the benefit of the local community. It is advertised as a temporary position.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct site inspections and investigate alleged breaches of planning permits and planning scheme requirements.
• Monitor properties to ensure compliance with permit conditions and endorsed plans.
• Investigate complaints from residents and community stakeholders.
• Negotiate outcomes to resolve planning compliance matters.
• Prepare investigation reports, correspondence, infringement notices and enforcement documentation.
• Assist with enforcement proceedings, including VCAT matters.
• Work with internal teams and external stakeholders.

Required profile

• Previous experience in planning investigations, compliance or enforcement, ideally in local government.
• Qualifications in Town Planning, Regulatory Services or equivalent experience.
• Sound knowledge of the Planning and Environment Act 1987 and Victorian planning schemes.
• Demonstrated experience conducting site inspections and investigations.
• Current Victorian driver's licence.

• Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently and in a team.
