Senior Officer, State Control Centre Operations and Watch Desk

About the role

The Department of Justice and Community Safety is recruiting two Senior Officers (VPS 4, $100,894-$114,476 plus superannuation) for the State Control Centre Operations and Watch Desk within Emergency Management Victoria. The Watch Desk operates 24/7, 365 days a year, providing a base service for the State Control Centre, maintaining readiness for emergencies and no-notice events, and supporting stewardship teams during low activity. The role is full-time, ongoing and requires on-site presence at the State Control Centre at all times.

Key responsibilities

• Mentor, guide and support staff to deliver the Watch Desk's service offer
• Support the State Control Centre and the legislative and operational requirements of the Emergency Management Commissioner
• Produce situation reports and intelligence products, monitoring data sources to support tactical, operational and strategic decisions
• Create and publish emergency information and warnings, monitor VicEmergency social media channels and support media requirements

Required profile

• Prior experience developing and applying business plans, policies and/or procedures
• Sound analytical skills, able to interpret data and report to senior stakeholders
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently or in a team
• Tertiary qualification in intelligence, communications or a similar discipline is desirable
• Understanding of Victoria's command and control arrangements is desirable

Shift work covers days, nights, weekends and public holidays.
