Legal Counsel - Compliance (In-House)

About the role

An established Australian financial services and investment business is recruiting a Legal Counsel - Compliance to join its legal and compliance team in Brisbane. The role suits a junior lawyer with at least two years' post-admission experience who enjoys regulatory issues and practical commercial advice, and works closely with the Chief Legal & Compliance Manager. It offers exposure to the organisation's Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL) and to building its compliance and risk management frameworks.

Key responsibilities

• Provide practical legal and compliance advice to stakeholders across the business
• Advise on regulatory requirements associated with the AFSL
• Assist with preparing, reviewing and executing fund documentation and disclosure materials
• Review and update compliance policies, procedures and risk management frameworks
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and advise on their implications
• Assist with regulatory reporting and lodgements, including ASIC and AUSTRAC requirements
• Conduct compliance reviews, risk assessments and controls assurance activities
• Support new business initiatives, partnerships and commercial opportunities from a legal and regulatory perspective
• Assist with compliance training, incident management and continuous improvement initiatives

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws and at least two years' post-admission experience
• Experience in corporate, commercial, financial services or regulatory matters
• Interest in financial services regulation, compliance and risk management
• Previous experience in financial services or an AFSL-regulated business is advantageous but not essential
