Italian Speaking Social Volunteer - Residential Care

About the role

HammondCare, an independent Christian charity providing aged care services, is looking for a kind, Italian-speaking volunteer to spend time with an elderly resident in its residential care home in Wahroonga. The role is a friendly visit over a cuppa and a chat, or, when the weather is kind, a gentle walk around the grounds with a stop at the onsite café. It is part of the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme funded by the Australian Government.

Key responsibilities

• Visit an elderly resident regularly to share conversation in their own language and bring them warmth, connection and companionship.
• Meet for a one-hour visit between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Sunday; frequency depends on availability, from weekly to fortnightly.
• Bring a sense of presence and kindness that can help reduce isolation and improve the quality of life of the person visited.

Required profile

• Able to speak and understand Italian.
• 18 years or older.
• An NDIS Worker Screening Check arranged and paid for by HammondCare.
