Pastoral Care Volunteer

About the role

HammondCare, an independent Christian charity providing aged care volunteer visitors, is seeking pastoral care volunteers for its Northern Sydney respite cottages. As a pastoral care volunteer you will support the spiritual and emotional needs of an elderly person staying at Lucinda Cottage, which offers short-term overnight respite care for a person living with dementia in a home-like setting. You will work alongside the Pastoral Care Coordinator.

Key responsibilities

• Support people to meet their spiritual needs
• Nurture spiritual development
• Supplement and complement the work of the Pastoral Care Coordinator, under their direction
• Act as a social visitor, making regular visits to improve quality of life and reduce isolation

Required profile

• 18 years or older
• A national volunteer police check, arranged and paid for by HammondCare
• Availability to discuss with the organisation

Required skills

• High level of interpersonal skills, including strong empathy and listening skills
• Pastoral care training such as Chaplaincy or Clinical Pastoral Education, or attendance at HammondCare pastoral care training
• Spiritual Care Series, in preparation to become a pastoral care volunteer
