Head of Training and Checking

About the role

The Head of Training and Checking (HOTC) leads the development, implementation and continuous improvement of Metrea's flight crew training system, ensuring compliance with CASA Part 138 and the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations. Reporting to the Head of Special Missions – Australia, the role provides strategic and operational leadership for training standards, competency assessment and operational readiness.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and maintain an approved training and checking system compliant with CASA regulations and internal procedures.
• Design and oversee initial, recurrent, conversion, upgrade and remedial training programmes tailored to mission requirements.
• Manage flight crew proficiency checks, line checks and competency assessments.
• Monitor training effectiveness through quality assurance, audits, data analysis and safety performance indicators.
• Coordinate with the Safety Manager to identify training needs arising from incidents, audits and risk assessments.
• Liaise with CASA and other regulatory bodies on training, checking and operational approvals.

Required profile

• Extensive operational experience in aerial work, special mission or commercial aviation.
• CASA ATPL(A)/CPL(A) with Multi‑Engine Command Instrument Rating and type ratings for Beechcraft King Air and Bombardier Jet.
• Current Australian passport and ability to obtain an Australian Security Clearance.
• Strong leadership, strategic thinking and stakeholder management skills.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of CASR Part 138, MOS requirements and Safety Management Systems.
• Experience with training syllabus development and execution in a Special Mission environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Learning Management Systems and training management software.
