Director of Cybersecurity

About the role

The Director of Cybersecurity will own Emesent’s cybersecurity posture, program definition, and certification evidence as a senior individual contributor. Reporting to the EVP Product & Engineering, you will shape the company’s security maturity across both enterprise and product domains.

Key responsibilities

• Define, maintain and communicate the overall cybersecurity posture and report risk and maturity to executive leadership and the board.
• Develop and own a structured roadmap to improve security maturity across Engineering and IT, aligning initiatives across all delivery functions.
• Establish governance structures, control frameworks, audit readiness and coordinate internal and external security assessments.
• Lead organisational readiness for frameworks and certifications such as CMMC Level 2, NIST SP 800‑171, Australian ISM, Essential Eight, DISP and ISO/IEC 27001.
• Partner with Product, Engineering and IT leaders to embed security requirements into system design and provide risk‑based guidance.
• Drive company‑wide cybersecurity awareness, upskilling and build a cross‑functional community of security specialists.

Required profile

• 10 years of experience in cybersecurity governance, risk and compliance leadership.
• Background in complex technology and engineering product development (software and hardware).
• Proven ability to influence senior technical and executive leaders without direct authority.
• Experience in regulated industries, ideally Defence or critical infrastructure, and Australian citizenship with eligibility for security clearance.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of security frameworks and certifications: CMMC Level 2, NIST SP 800‑171, ISO/IEC 27001, Australian ISM, Essential Eight, DISP.
• Experience with IRAP, C3PAO, penetration testing and audit processes.
• Ability to translate technical security activities into enterprise‑wide risk and readiness assessments.
