About the role
The Strategic Change Oversight team provides independent, second‑line risk oversight of ANZ’s most strategically material programmes. This senior position leads the assessment, challenge and governance of change‑related risks throughout the programme lifecycle.
Key responsibilities
- Lead second‑line risk oversight of strategically material programmes, applying a risk‑based, proportionate approach across design, build and implementation phases.
- Assess and form independent views on operational, compliance, technology, conduct and delivery risks, and evaluate the adequacy of risk‑management and control arrangements.
- Provide clear, concise challenge to first‑line leadership, escalating concerns when risk exposures exceed appetite.
- Deliver structured risk assessments, deep‑dives and thematic insights aligned to key milestones, and produce high‑quality written and verbal risk reports.
- Support risk governance by contributing to programme forums, monitoring remediation actions and ensuring documentation meets regulatory expectations.
- Build strong relationships with programme leadership, line‑1 risk owners, compliance, internal audit and other second‑line teams, acting as a trusted advisor.
- Lead, coach and oversee managers and risk staff, and contribute to the continuous improvement of oversight frameworks and tools.
Required profile
- Extensive experience delivering independent second‑line oversight of large, complex strategic change programmes in a regulated financial services environment.
- Strong understanding of end‑to‑end operational risk management, including identification, assessment, control effectiveness, escalation and governance.
- Proven ability to assess, challenge and prioritise material risks using sound judgement and a proportionate approach.
- Excellent stakeholder‑management and influencing skills, with a track record of constructively challenging senior leaders while maintaining independence.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, capable of producing executive‑level risk papers and insights.
