Head of Collections – Lead High‑Performing Team

About the role

We are seeking a Head of Collections to lead and develop a high‑performing team within a fast‑growing consumer lending and auto finance organisation. Reporting to the CFO, you will own the strategic direction and health of a secured loan portfolio, balancing commercial results with compliance and customer fairness.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee end‑to‑end portfolio performance, including arrears management, hardship, recoveries and loss mitigation.
• Lead, coach and mentor collections and customer‑relations teams, establishing clear operating rhythms and performance reviews.
• Provide hands‑on support for complex cases such as disputes, repossessions and legal recoveries.
• Analyse portfolio trends and implement initiatives to improve performance and reduce risk.
• Collaborate with executive stakeholders to align commercial outcomes with regulatory compliance.
• Identify capability gaps and deliver targeted training and development plans.

Required profile

• 7+ years of experience in collections, portfolio management or credit risk within financial services.
• Proven track record of leading high‑performing teams and delivering measurable portfolio results.
• Strong commercial judgement with the ability to balance risk, compliance and customer outcomes.
• Excellent analytical and decision‑making skills, capable of influencing senior stakeholders.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of the debt lifecycle, including arrears, hardship, recoveries and legal processes.
• Understanding of Australian regulatory frameworks (NCCP Act, Debt Collection Guidelines, AFCA, RG 271, Privacy Act).
