Graduate Mechanical Engineer, Rail & Metro

About the role

SMEC is looking for a recent Mechanical Engineering graduate to join its Rail & Metro team in North Sydney. As part of a two‑year Graduate Development Program you will work on major rail and metro infrastructure projects, gaining hands‑on experience and structured learning from day one.

Key responsibilities

• Support design development, including drawings, models and technical documentation.
• Assist with engineering calculations and analysis for roads, drainage or structures under senior guidance.
• Participate in site visits and inspections to understand design implementation.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate design inputs and meet project milestones.
• Learn and apply industry standards, tools and best practices through on‑the‑job experience.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Motivated problem‑solver who enjoys working on real‑world projects.

Required skills

• AutoCAD
• Civil 3D (or similar design tools such as 12D)
