About the role
The Attorney‑General's Department is seeking an experienced Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander leader to join the senior Executive Service as a First Assistant Secretary. In this SES Band 2 position you will direct a division that shapes performance, capability and culture across the department.
Key responsibilities
- Set strategic direction, align resources and lead senior leaders to deliver the department’s highest priorities.
- Provide evidence‑based policy, legislative and program advice to Ministers and senior decision‑makers.
- Manage high‑profile, sensitive initiatives, balancing risk and competing priorities.
- Build capability within the division and foster an inclusive, accountable culture.
- Collaborate across government portfolios, courts, integrity bodies and First Nations communities to achieve joined‑up outcomes.
Required profile
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background.
- Demonstrated senior leadership experience in the public sector.
- Strong judgment, cultural awareness and commitment to public service.
- Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive reform.
