About the role
The Finance Officer will support the National Fire Ant Eradication Program by processing accounts payable transactions, maintaining vendor records, and ensuring timely payments in line with legislation and program priorities. This role contributes directly to the financial integrity of a high‑impact government initiative.
Key responsibilities
- Process end‑to‑end accounts payable transactions, including vendor creation, purchase order invoices, corporate card transactions and General Purpose Expenditure Vouchers (GPEVs) in SAP.
- Interpret policies and financial information to resolve customer queries, escalating complex or high‑risk issues as needed.
- Prioritise and manage a high volume of transactions to meet deadlines and maintain service standards.
- Monitor transaction volumes, timeliness and outstanding issues, reporting findings and escalating when appropriate.
- Apply correct General Ledger (GL) account codes in line with Whole of Government Chart of Accounts guidelines.
- Manage asset creation and disposal processes, keeping the asset register accurate.
- Support internal and external audits by providing validated financial records and documentation.
- Develop and implement data‑entry automation solutions to maintain a centralised invoice register for month‑end accruals and reporting.
- Maintain confidentiality and sensitivity when handling financial data.
- Participate in finance team meetings and contribute to continuous improvement of processes.
Required profile
- Demonstrated ability to handle high‑volume financial transactions with accuracy and timeliness.
- Strong understanding of accounts payable processes and relevant legislation.
- Excellent communication skills for managing customer queries and stakeholder expectations.
- Ability to work independently, exercise judgement and escalate issues appropriately.
- Experience supporting financial audits and maintaining asset registers.
- Commitment to confidentiality and data security.
