Environmental Coordinator

About the role

This leadership role leads and coordinates all environmental management, sustainability and climate adaptation and mitigation initiatives. It develops, implements and reviews environmental programs, policies and action plans, and reports to the Manager Waste and Environment while supervising a Conservation Officer. The position is based in Bendigo, Victoria.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of conservation and sustainability strategies, policies and projects.
• Oversee delivery of environmental programs covering climate mitigation and resilience, sustainability and conservation.
• Provide direction, mentoring and support to the Environment team so it stays aligned with strategic objectives.
• Drive community engagement and education initiatives to raise environmental awareness and encourage sustainable practices.
• Pursue grant funding opportunities proactively and manage grant applications, delivery and reporting.
• Ensure compliance with statutory responsibilities and legislative requirements.
• Facilitate expert advice to management, staff and Council on environmental and sustainability matters.

Required profile

• Tertiary degree in Sustainability, Climate Change, Environmental Science or a related field with relevant experience, or a lesser formal qualification with extensive relevant experience.
• Demonstrated experience in an environment or sustainability leadership role within a multi-functional setting.
• Knowledge of natural resource management, including biodiversity management, climate change adaptation and mitigation.
• Valid driver's licence, National Police Check and Victorian Working with Children Check.
• Desirable: local government experience and knowledge of Victorian local government issues; experience in policy development and project management.

• Financial management, including writing grant applications, grant delivery, budget development and management.
• Leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, able to inspire teams and stakeholders.

Salary range: $105,000 - $118,000 plus superannuation.
