Electrical Engineer – Defence Systems

About the role

Join Leidos Australia’s Defence team to sustain and introduce new capabilities for the Royal Australian Navy. You will work on systems such as autonomous underwater vehicles, ruggedised computing, weather stations and hydrographic survey equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and evolve product baselines and system structures across multiple subsystems.
• Design and integrate electrical solutions for 12V‑24V battery systems, power distribution, wiring/cabling and ensure compliance with standards such as IPC/WHMA‑A‑620.
• Create and modify engineering drawings and documentation, and act as the subject matter expert for COTS and MOTS integration.
• Develop system enhancements, conduct test and evaluation activities, and manage engineering artefacts like deviation requests and change proposals.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering recognised in Australia.
• System‑level thinking with ability to assess impacts of engineering changes on overall system performance.
• Experience with systems engineering processes in a defence or regulated environment.
• Capability to produce engineering artefacts (deviation applications, problem reports, change proposals, investigation reports).
• Australian citizenship and ability to obtain baseline security clearance.

Required skills

• Design and integration of 12V‑24V battery systems and power distribution.
• Wiring/cabling design and electrical safety compliance.
• Knowledge of IPC/WHMA‑A‑620 standards.
• Integration of Commercial Off‑The‑Shelf (COTS) and Military Off‑The‑Shelf (MOTS) components.
• Engineering drawing creation and documentation.
• Risk and hazard identification/management within regulated environments.
