Electrical Engineer

About the role

Leidos Australia is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support and evolve systems for the Royal Australian Navy, including autonomous underwater vehicles, weather stations, and hydrographic survey equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Own engineering tasks for 12V‑24V battery systems, power distribution, wiring/cabling, and electrical safety, adhering to standards such as IPC/WHMA‑A‑620.
• Create and modify engineering drawings and documentation, and act as the subject‑matter expert for integrating COTS and MOTS components into larger systems.
• Develop system enhancements, drive engineering investigations to documented completion, and coordinate test and evaluation activities.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering recognised in Australia.
• System‑level thinking with ability to assess impacts of engineering changes on overall system performance.
• Experience with systems engineering activities in a defence or regulated environment, including risk and hazard identification.

Required skills

• Battery system design (12V‑24V) and power distribution.
• Wiring/cabling and electrical safety compliance.
• Knowledge of IPC/WHMA‑A‑620 standards.
• Integration of Commercial Off‑The‑Shelf (COTS) and Military Off‑The‑Shelf (MOTS) components.
• Engineering drawing creation and documentation.
• Risk and hazard management within regulatory frameworks.
