Electrical Engineer – Defence Systems

About the role

Leidos Australia is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support and evolve systems for the Royal Australian Navy. You will work on a range of defence platforms, including autonomous underwater vehicles, weather radars and hydrographic survey equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and develop product baselines and system structures across multiple subsystems.
• Design, test and document 12V‑24V battery systems, power distribution, wiring/cabling and electrical safety in accordance with IPC/WHMA‑A‑620 standards.
• Produce and modify engineering drawings and documentation for review and integration.
• Act as Subject Matter Expert for COTS and MOTS electrical integration.
• Drive engineering tasks from investigation through to test and evaluation within a structured framework.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering recognised in Australia.
• System‑level thinking with ability to assess impact of engineering changes.
• Experience with systems engineering activities in a defence or regulated environment.
• Australian citizenship and ability to obtain Baseline security clearance.

Required skills

• Design of 12V‑24V battery and power distribution systems.
• Wiring/cabling and electrical safety compliance (IPC/WHMA‑A‑620).
• Creation and modification of engineering drawings and documentation.
• Integration of Commercial Off‑The‑Shelf (COTS) and Military Off‑The‑Shelf (MOTS) components.
• Risk and hazard identification/management in a regulatory context.
