Director, Relationship Manager – Financial Institutions

About the role

Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) is seeking an experienced Financial Institutions banker to join its Global Corporate & Investment Banking team in Australia. Based in Sydney or Melbourne, the role focuses on the insurance sector and broader FIG business, shaping strategy and delivering innovative solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive account plans for existing and target financial institution clients, aligning with business objectives.
• Collaborate with the local Managing Director and APAC Head of Solutions to build the insurance sector strategy for Oceania.
• Partner with product specialists to design bespoke financial solutions, including acquisition financing, debt capital markets, risk management, and ancillary banking products.
• Provide input into product development by articulating customer requirements and market trends.
• Manage portfolio health and credit performance, working closely with the credit division.
• Mentor and coach junior staff across FIG and GCIB to foster a high‑performance culture.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience building multi‑product portfolios of financial institution relationships, with at least five years in a senior relationship‑management role.
• Undergraduate degree in Business, Commerce or Economics; CFA or similar qualification highly desirable.
• Proven ability to lead teams, develop direct reports, and maintain rigorous credit quality standards.
• Strong interpersonal skills to cultivate trust‑based relationships with C‑suite executives and internal stakeholders.
