Chef - Cairns

About the role

A full-time Chef position is available in Cairns, Queensland. The role covers kitchen operations, menu planning and costing, and supervising kitchen staff. The advertised salary is $75,000-$85,000 per year depending on experience.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and cook a wide variety of high-quality dishes according to menu requirements, with consistent portioning, plating and garnishing.
• Assist in menu planning, costing and development of new dishes, including seasonal, special event and promotional menus.
• Develop, implement and monitor SOPs for food preparation, hygiene and cleaning, and keep the kitchen clean and organised.
• Keep kitchen equipment safe and maintained, and monitor food and labour costs.
• Review revenue and payroll reports weekly, adjust rosters and analyse monthly performance reports.
• Supervise kitchen staff, help recruit, onboard and train them, run performance reviews and plan succession.
• Represent the brand professionally with customers and partners, and promote WHS compliance.

Required profile

• Relevant diploma qualification and at least one year of relevant work experience; three years of experience may substitute for the qualification.
• Experience managing a commercial kitchen, including supervision, rostering and training of staff, menu planning and pricing, stock control and marketing strategies.
• Ability to handle customer complaints and work well in a high-volume environment.

Required skills

• Computer literacy is essential.
• Knowledge of facilities within the complex and of the local area.
• Good communication, problem-solving and attention to detail.
