Barista

About the role

A café in Cairns, Queensland is looking for a full-time Barista. The role creates an enjoyable café experience through quality beverages and friendly customer service, with an annual salary of $70,000-$80,000 depending on experience.

Key responsibilities

• Welcome customers, take accurate orders and process sales through the point-of-sale system
• Grind coffee beans, operate espresso machines, grinders and brewing equipment, and prepare lattes, cappuccinos and other specialty drinks
• Prepare juices, smoothies and special beverages in the bar area
• Run coffee orders and special drinks to customer tables and handle cash and EFTPOS payments
• Clean and maintain coffee machines, grinders and bar equipment, including backflushing, cleaning steam wands and descaling
• Maintain clean service areas, wash glassware and check ingredient quality and stock rotation
• Promote specialty coffees and seasonal beverages, and coordinate with kitchen and front-of-house staff during busy periods
• Follow food safety, hygiene and workplace safety requirements, and train junior staff in coffee making

Required profile

• Relevant AQF Certificate II or above, or two years of relevant experience if no qualification
• At least 12 months of relevant experience (two years if no qualification)
• Works calmly and efficiently during busy periods, and is reliable both independently and in a team
• Friendly service, clear communication and careful equipment handling
