Wastewater Civil Construction Assistant

About the role

Parkes Shire Council is looking for motivated Wastewater Civil Construction Assistants to support the delivery and maintenance of water, sewer and drainage infrastructure across the Shire. The role involves hands‑on labouring tasks in a safe, team‑oriented environment, contributing to essential community services.

Key responsibilities

• Perform labouring duties for construction, maintenance and repair of water, sewer and drainage systems.
• Assist with water service repairs, meter reading and associated tasks.
• Support the installation and rehabilitation of pits, manholes and related wastewater infrastructure.
• Carry out concrete labouring and assist with road, kerb, gutter and drainage repairs.
• Operate, maintain and care for small plant, tools and equipment safely.
• Help with site preparation, excavation, set‑out and general civil construction activities.
• Maintain accurate work records and ensure compliance with safety standards.

Required profile

• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Current, maintained driver’s licence.
• SafeWork NSW Construction induction (White Card).
• One year of relevant hands‑on experience (highly favourable).
• Certificate in Civil Construction, trade qualification or plant‑operation tickets (favourable).
• Basic literacy, numeracy and proficiency with electronic devices.

What we offer

• Competitive salary $53,551‑$61,583 per year plus super.
• Garbage/sewer allowance of $1.38 per hour.
• 38‑hour week with fortnightly rostered day off.
