Veterinary Nurse Assistant - ARH Brisbane

About the role

ARH Brisbane, part of a nationwide group of specialist and emergency veterinary hospitals, is hiring a Veterinary Nurse Assistant for its state-of-the-art hospital, which offers small animal surgery, internal medicine, neurology, surgical and medical oncology, and emergency and critical care. The role supports the veterinary nursing team in caring for patients. Shifts are weekday (5pm-11pm and 3am-7am) and weekend/public holiday (4am-9am, 10am-4pm and 5pm-11pm).

Key responsibilities

• Assist veterinary nurses and veterinarians as required.
• Monitor and care for hospitalized patients under the guidance of the Emergency Critical Care (ECC) team.
• Administer medications as directed by the ECC team.
• Keep hospital facilities clean and hygienic, including floors in treatment, ICU and ward spaces, and do daily laundry upkeep.
• Handle and restrain animals gently and compassionately, and clean cages and re-set them.
• Walk, feed and offer water to patients under nurse instruction.
• Restock disposables such as needles and syringes and pharmacy stock.

Required profile

• Certificate II/III in Animal Studies, or currently studying.
• Previous experience in the animal care industry highly desirable.
• Adaptable and enthusiastic, with excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Able to handle animals with gentleness and confidence.
