About the role
The Tasmanian Health Service is recruiting qualified doctors for an unaccredited General Surgery Registrar position for the 2027 training year at Royal Hobart Hospital. This fixed‑term role involves acute surgical care, outpatient management and participation in teaching and research activities.
Key responsibilities
- Manage day‑to‑day care of private and public in‑patients and out‑patients.
- Provide after‑hours emergency cover within the Emergency Surgical Unit.
- Participate in elective and outpatient services across major sub‑specialties (colorectal, UGI, HPB, breast, endocrine).
- Complete 10‑week rotations in Paediatric Surgery and/or Trauma, with additional exposure to Vascular Surgery after‑hours.
- Engage in teaching, research and multidisciplinary team activities.
Required profile
- General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration where applicable.
- Successful completion of pre‑employment checks (conviction, identification, disciplinary history).
- Suitable postgraduate medical qualification for registrar level.

- Salary range $134,930 – $189,005 per annum (Medical Practitioner Level 5‑11).
