Traffic Response Officer

About the role

RACQ’s Traffic Response Unit is looking for a Traffic Response Officer to join its first‑responder team. You will work across Queensland’s road network, providing rapid incident response, traffic management and motorist assistance to keep roads safe and moving.

Key responsibilities

• Respond quickly to road incidents such as crashes, disabled vehicles, debris and adverse weather.
• Assess scenes and implement traffic management strategies to protect road users and emergency responders.
• Coordinate with emergency services and road authorities for integrated multi‑agency responses.
• Assist motorists with vehicle relocations and basic roadside troubleshooting.
• Conduct proactive patrols to identify and mitigate emerging hazards.
• Maintain clear communication with Traffic Management Centres via radio and digital platforms.
• Uphold operational safety, professionalism and public engagement standards.

Required profile

• Current, valid Open MR class driver’s licence (or higher) with a clean ten‑year driving record.
• Valid White Card (Construction Induction).
• Willingness to work on a rotating roster including weekends and public holidays.
• Strong situational awareness and decision‑making under pressure.
• Effective communication and conflict‑resolution abilities.
• Prior emergency services experience is advantageous but not required.

Required skills

• Basic mechanical or vehicle troubleshooting.
• Proficiency with smartphones, tablets and computer systems.
• Radio communication operation.
