Trade Waiter

About the role

Phillip Island Winery is looking for an experienced Trade Waiter to join its front-of-house team in Ventnor, Victoria. The restaurant serves quality wine, seasonal food and relaxed hospitality in a rural setting, welcoming locals and visitors for casual lunches, events and special celebrations. This is a full-time position for someone who takes pride in knowledgeable, attentive service.

Key responsibilities

• Welcome guests, assist with reservations and provide menus and beverage lists.
• Explain food and drink options and make knowledgeable recommendations, including wine pairings.
• Take orders accurately and communicate them clearly to the kitchen and bar teams.
• Discuss dietary requirements and food allergies and ensure they are passed to the kitchen.
• Serve food and beverages in line with service and presentation standards.
• Open and pour wine, prepare other beverages and assist with basic bar and cellar duties when required.
• Prepare, arrange and maintain dining tables, clear used plates and glassware and replenish beverages.
• Process customer payments through the point-of-sale system and help with other front-of-house tasks.

Required profile

• Experience in a restaurant, winery, cellar door or other premium hospitality environment.
• AQF Certificate III in Hospitality (Restaurant Front of House) or equivalent, or at least 12 months of relevant work experience (additional to course placements).
• Alternatively, at least 18 months of relevant work experience in Australia on a temporary visa, or at least two years of relevant experience.

Required skills

• Good food and wine knowledge and confidence recommending pairings.
• Strong customer service and clear communication skills.
• Ability to work with front-of-house and kitchen teams and good organisation during busy services.
