Trade and Investment Commissioner – Pacific

About the role

The Queensland Trade and Investment Commissioner – Pacific leads the promotion of Queensland’s trade and investment opportunities across Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, Fiji and other Pacific nations. Reporting to the General Manager of International Operations, the role combines strategic advocacy, relationship building and market intelligence to position Queensland as a premier destination for business, study and work.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute TIQ’s strategic objectives for the Pacific region.
• Manage governance, budgets and corporate reporting for Pacific activities.
• Organise and lead trade missions, ministerial visits and business delegations.
• Build and maintain high‑level networks with governments, industry leaders and key decision‑makers.
• Provide market intelligence, business leads and partner introductions to Queensland companies.
• Represent Queensland at trade shows, business‑matching events and other promotional activities.

Required profile

• 10+ years of international business experience, including 3‑4 years in a senior leadership role.
• Deep familiarity with Pacific nations and Australian markets.
• Strong commercial acumen and strategic thinking.
• Knowledge of one or more Queensland key industry sectors (resources, agriculture, tourism, education, urban infrastructure, knowledge‑based industries).
• Demonstrated integrity, resilience and ability to operate under pressure.
• Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
