Tourism Assistant - Great Ocean Road Visitor Information Centre

About the role

Colac Otway Shire Council is looking for a friendly, customer-focused Tourism Assistant for its Great Ocean Road Visitor Information Centre in Apollo Bay. Reporting to the Coordinator, the role is a permanent part-time position of 30 hours per week (4 days: Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday) at Band 4 level. It is a key point of contact for visitors and residents, helping them find accommodation, attractions, tours and events, and supporting local businesses.

Key responsibilities

• Welcome and assist visitors with accommodation, attractions, tours, events and local information
• Provide customer service by face-to-face, telephone and electronic enquiries
• Support the day-to-day operations of the Visitor Information Centre
• Maintain tourism and business information databases
• Process retail sales, cashiering and administrative tasks
• Promote online services and visitor resources
• Assist local tourism operators with business listings and marketing opportunities

Required profile

• Experience in tourism, hospitality, events or a similar customer-focused industry
• Outstanding customer service and communication skills
• Experience in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
• Interest in promoting the local region and tourism experiences
• Ability to multitask, use initiative and work well in a team
• Current driver's licence

Required skills

• Strong administration skills
• Computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications

• Salary of $71,667.44 to $75,515.44 per annum pro rata plus superannuation
