Technical Lead, Digital Archive

About the role

Nine, Australia's largest locally owned media company, is running a major project to digitise and productise its 195-year archive of Australian broadcast media, film and publications. As Technical Lead, you will lead the foundational design of a new suite of AI-powered products that make this history accessible to internal creators and external markets. This is a hybrid technical leadership and full-stack engineering role where you define the technical roadmap, make architectural choices and write the code alongside the engineering group.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the primary technical architect owning end-to-end solution design while also writing production code as a full-stack engineer.
• Design, develop and maintain secure, high-availability applications on cloud-native infrastructure and data pipelines.
• Establish modern engineering practices, standardise CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code, and mentor engineers.
• Oversee system maintenance, act as escalation point for complex issues and lead integrations with third-party vendors.
• Lead cross-team collaboration within the platform engineering group and influence stakeholders across the organisation.
• Drive project planning and roadmaps, manage workflows and objectives in Jira, and communicate architectural trade-offs.
• Set documentation standards for software designs and workflows, and coordinate on-call rotations.

Required profile

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including demonstrated technical leadership.
• Proven experience architecting high-volume, large-scale systems within enterprise compliance and security frameworks.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Right to work and live in Australia.

Required skills

• Hands-on proficiency with Go, JavaScript, React, Python and Bash.
• Deep familiarity with AWS and/or GCP services; cloud certifications highly regarded.
• Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, TeamCity, GitLab CI).
• Relational databases (PostgreSQL) and containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Networking, monitoring and logging (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).
