Staff Specialist – Cardiothoracic Surgery

About the role

This fixed‑term, part‑time position offers a unique chance to join Tasmania’s only public cardiothoracic surgery unit at the Royal Hobart Hospital. You will contribute to a high‑performing multidisciplinary team, engage in teaching and mentoring, and help shape the future delivery of cardiothoracic services across the state.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver safe, high‑quality cardiothoracic surgical care to adult patients in both elective and acute settings.
• Participate in teaching, research and mentorship activities related to cardiothoracic surgery.
• Contribute to multidisciplinary meetings, including cardiac surgery case conferences and cross‑specialty planning.
• Supervise and support the development of junior medical staff and surgical trainees.
• Participate in on‑call and after‑hours rostering as required under the Staff Specialist Agreement.

Required profile

• Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons (RACS) in Cardiothoracic Surgery.
• Full AHPRA registration as a specialist Cardiothoracic Surgeon.
• Documented experience in Minimal Access Thoracic Surgery.
