Specialist Clinical Pharmacist – Cardiothoracic Surgery & ICU

About the role

Westmead Hospital is seeking a Specialist Clinical Pharmacist to join its Cardiothoracic Surgery, High Dependency and Intensive Care Units. You will provide advanced pharmaceutical care to critically ill patients, ensuring safe, effective and evidence‑based medication management.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct early medication assessments and maintain continuity of care for cardiothoracic and ICU patients.
• Supervise drug distribution, medication safety processes and compliance with hospital policies.
• Develop and update clinical guidelines to promote quality use of medicines.
• Provide therapeutic advice, mentor pharmacy staff and supervise pharmacy students.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to drive clinical excellence and practice change.

Required profile

• Pharmacy degree (e.g., Bachelor of Pharmacy) and full, unrestricted AHPRA registration.
• Grade 2 classification under the Health Employees Pharmacists (State) Award.
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
• Extensive experience in clinical pharmacy, preferably in intensive care or surgical services.
• Strong organisational abilities, self‑motivation and capacity to work independently and within a team.

Required skills

• Proficiency with pharmacy dispensing software.
• Database management competence.
• Advanced use of Microsoft Excel.
• Advanced use of Microsoft Word.
