Solicitor - Commonwealth Government (Workplace Relations & Safety)

About the role

HWL Ebsworth is recruiting a solicitor to join its Commonwealth Government and national Workplace Relations & Safety practice in Canberra. You will work closely with a Partner with 20 years' experience in employment and workplace relations law, alongside other senior lawyers, and gain early responsibility, direct client contact and a clear path of progression.

Key responsibilities

• Advise Commonwealth Government clients on complex, often high-profile workplace matters, with some exposure to private sector organisations.
• Handle employment disputes, industrial relations matters, workplace investigations, discrimination and adverse action claims.
• Cover work health and safety issues, regulatory compliance matters and strategic advisory work.
• Manage matters with appropriate supervision, with a strong pipeline of complex, nationally significant work.

Required profile

• 2+ years' PQE.
• Demonstrated experience, or a strong desire to develop expertise, in contentious and non-contentious workplace relations and safety matters, with a sound understanding of the relevant law.
• Experience in public sector employment law, or a genuine interest in developing in this area.
• Full working rights in Australia and a valid practising certificate.
