Site Manager – Substation Construction

About the role

Hays is recruiting a Site Manager for substation construction in West Melbourne, Victoria. The role covers coordination of civil and electrical works, management of multiple contractors, work around high-voltage infrastructure and driving the project through construction, testing and commissioning. The project portfolio spans renewable energy and data centre sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Take overall responsibility for day-to-day construction delivery on site, including safety, quality, programme and resources.
• Lead and coordinate civil, electrical and mechanical contractors so that works are delivered safely and to specification.
• Plan site activities, identify construction risks and resolve constructibility, sequencing and interface issues before they affect the programme.
• Manage subcontractor performance and coordinate closely with engineering, commissioning, client and project teams.
• Provide clear visibility on progress, schedule, cost, variations and emerging site issues.

Required profile

• Significant substation construction experience, ideally across transmission, sub-transmission, distribution or major infrastructure projects.
• Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary contractors and complex site interfaces.
• Trade or tertiary qualification in electrical, construction, building or a related discipline.
• Current independent Australian working rights.

Required skills

• Strong working knowledge of HV electrical infrastructure and its associated civil and electrical construction methods.
• Practical, site-focused approach with strong safety, planning, contractor and stakeholder management capabilities.
