Senior WordPress Engineer

About the role

This is a hands‑on Senior WordPress Engineer position within an established Australian digital business. You will lead a small squad while staying close to the code, shaping the WordPress VIP platform and driving subscription‑based capabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and improve the existing WordPress VIP implementation – architecture, security, scalability and maintainability.
• Develop and maintain custom themes, plugins and reusable components across front‑end and back‑end.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks using Core Web Vitals, caching, CDN configuration and database optimisation.
• Lead a small development squad, providing technical direction, mentoring and code reviews.
• Collaborate with product managers and other engineering teams to translate business priorities into technical solutions.

Required profile

• Strong professional experience with WordPress, including multisite, custom themes, plugins and Gutenberg.
• Solid PHP skills complemented by modern JavaScript, React and REST API experience.
• Proven ability to take technical ownership, mentor developers and influence architectural decisions.
• Experience with WordPress VIP or comparable managed WordPress environments.
