Senior Urban Planner

About the role

AECOM is seeking a Senior Urban Planner to join its Urbanism & Planning team in Sydney, working on high‑impact projects across NSW and beyond.

Key responsibilities

• Lead planning assessments, strategic projects and major infrastructure approvals across NSW, Canberra, Newcastle and the Hunter region.
• Mentor junior planners, produce high‑quality planning reports, due‑diligence assessments and approval documentation.
• Conduct research, policy reviews and analysis to shape planning strategies and ensure statutory compliance.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver planning inputs for master‑planning, urban design and major project approvals.
• Build client relationships, contribute to fee proposals and support business development for the planning team.

Required profile

• Degree in Town Planning, Urban Planning or related discipline with 6+ years of planning experience, preferably in consultancy.
• Proven ability to work within multidisciplinary teams and communicate effectively with clients and authorities.
• Flexible, solution‑focused approach with strong written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
• Experience with GIS/spatial tools.
