Senior Threat Detection Engineer

About the role

Join the Cyber Threat Incident Response team at Macquarie as a Senior Threat Detection Engineer. You will design, build and implement detection mechanisms to identify advanced cyber threats across a large, complex enterprise environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and evolve threat‑intel‑informed defensive capabilities.
• Design, implement and maintain detection logic on SIEM and log aggregation platforms such as Splunk ES, Google SecOps and Sumologic.
• Automate the threat detection lifecycle using detection‑as‑code practices, CI/CD pipelines and version‑control tools.
• Collaborate with cloud, firewall, EDR and proxy teams to ensure comprehensive logging coverage.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years of experience as a detection engineer, security operations analyst or incident responder.
• Strong knowledge of threat actor techniques and the MITRE ATT&CK framework.
• Analytical mindset with a proven ability to question the status quo and improve detection fidelity.

Required skills

• SIEM platforms: Splunk ES, Google SecOps, Sumologic.
• Version control and CI/CD: GitHub, Git, Cloudbees, Bitbucket, Bitbucket pipelines.
• Cloud platforms: AWS, GCP, Azure.
• Network security tools: firewalls, EDR, proxies.
• Automation and detection‑as‑code practices.
• Familiarity with AI coding assistants such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot.
