Senior Submarine Engineering Lead - Canada

About the role

BMT Canada is recruiting a Senior Engineer with knowledge and experience covering the full submarine lifecycle to support the International Submarine Program Manager. The role manages activities and delivery projects and provides technical knowledge within the program's scope. It can be based anywhere in Canada and involves recurring long-term deployments of at least 6 months at a time at overseas client sites in the Asia Pacific region, providing technical leadership and oversight to a team of experienced engineers and technologists. Applications are open to candidates based in Australia who are willing to relocate.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and manage work schedules, identify technical and program risks, and contribute to multi-disciplinary teams delivering complex submarine projects.
• Prepare and deliver clear briefings and presentations, build strong client relationships and meet client needs proactively.
• Provide engineering design, construction advice and consultancy aligned with project scope, quality procedures and industry standards.
• Undertake and support technical assurance activities, reviewing deliverables and guiding others to ensure consistent quality and compliance.
• Share knowledge, support colleagues and foster an open culture of ideas and concerns.

Required profile

• Degree in a marine engineering discipline such as electrical, mechanical, naval architecture or systems engineering.
• Eligible for a Canadian security clearance.
• Minimum 15 years of experience in a marine engineering environment and minimum 5 years in submarine engineering.
• Experience in complex maritime design programs, systems integration, ship construction and/or repair, and leading teams in a maritime program.
• Understanding of standards for government and commercial vessels; defence industry experience, preferably in shipbuilding or ship repair.
• Willingness to work between Canada and deployed sites throughout the APAC region.
