Senior SRE Engineer

About the role

Telstra is hiring a Senior SRE Engineer to work within the CSM mission and Orchestration SRE team. The role leads SRE practices with a strong focus on platform reliability, security and operational excellence, building, maintaining and optimising cloud-native platforms and Kubernetes environments on AWS, while supporting CI/CD, DevSecOps, automation and observability.

Key responsibilities

• Lead SRE practices across the CSM mission and Orchestration SRE team, ensuring platform reliability, security and operational excellence.
• Build, maintain and optimise cloud-native platforms and Kubernetes environments on AWS.
• Develop and support CI/CD, DevSecOps, automation and observability capabilities.
• Provide operational support, incident management, root cause analysis and continuous service improvement.
• Drive reliability, performance, resilience and capacity improvements through engineering best practices.
• Lead change management and standardise SRE tooling, processes and operating models across missions.
• Contribute to chapter initiatives, capability uplift, knowledge sharing and the adoption of emerging technologies, including AI and automation.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years' experience as a Site Reliability Engineer, Platform Engineer or similar role.
• Proven expertise in Kubernetes and container orchestration in large-scale production environments.
• Demonstrated experience with data analytics and observability tooling, including SQL, Pandas, Splunk, New Relic, Fluent Bit and Kafka.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, able to work independently, lead initiatives and collaborate in an Agile environment.
• Knowledge of operational best practices such as incident, problem and change management, capacity planning, performance engineering and post-incident reviews, with an understanding of Telstra policies and governance.

Required skills

• AWS services including EKS, EC2, S3, IAM, SQS, Secrets Manager, Kinesis, Firehose and Cost Management.
• DevSecOps and CI/CD pipelines using GitLab.
• Scripting and automation with Python and Bash; TypeScript or Java is advantageous.
