Senior Project Manager – Federal Government (Canberra)

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Project Manager (EL2 level) to lead a multi‑disciplinary team for a Federal Government client in Canberra. The role involves overseeing complex projects from inception through delivery, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and security requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage a multi‑disciplined project team, overseeing finance, commercial, technical, risk, schedule, HR and stakeholder relationships.
• Provide strategic advice to senior management and stakeholders on whole‑life project considerations.
• Review and improve project management methodologies and support Australian Signals Directorate reform initiatives.
• Integrate risk and opportunity management into planning and decision‑making processes.
• Build and maintain a network of key stakeholders, negotiate and influence senior leadership.
• Monitor project performance against plans and implement corrective actions.
• Mentor less experienced staff and share expertise to achieve business outcomes.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing large, complex projects in a government or defence environment.
• Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to set performance standards.
• Ability to engage senior executives and act as a liaison between leadership and staff.
• Clear security clearance (NV2) is mandatory.
