Senior Procurement Specialist

About the role

This permanent, full‑time position is within the Procurement sourcing team of the Department of Education in Melbourne CBD. The role focuses on delivering end‑to‑end sourcing activities, developing procurement strategies and supporting schools and business areas with commercial expertise.

Key responsibilities

• Provide commercial and procurement advice to internal stakeholders and assist business areas throughout the sourcing lifecycle, from strategy development to contract award.
• Undertake high‑value procurements for schools, set up and manage buying panels, and develop procurement categories under the direction of the Procurement Manager.
• Research and benchmark markets, assess risks, analyse competition and trends to ensure best value for the Department.
• Contribute to division strategic projects and reporting, applying critical thinking and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification in a related field.
• 5+ years of procurement sourcing experience, including high‑complexity, high‑value procurements.
• Strong client focus, organisational and planning skills, and commitment to procurement compliance.
• Ability to collaborate, build relationships and drive continuous improvement.

Required skills

• Procurement sourcing expertise, including tender development, evaluation, negotiation and award.
• Experience with ICT procurement is highly regarded.
